In recent years, Albania has intensified its efforts to combat corruption and organised crime. This work is part of the process to join the European Union to which the Balkan country aspires.
The project to combat organised crime in Albania through criminal and financial investigation seeks to improve the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking in the country through proactive investigation methods and intelligence.
To achieve this objective, the project has deployed Spanish specialists from the State Attorney General's Office and the Ministry of the Interior, specifically, through the National Police. The cooperation project with European funding is led by Spain and is managed by FIIAPP with the support of Italy and the Netherlands.
In addition, peer-to-peer cooperation has been established between the Albanian administration and the following collaborating institutions: from Spain, the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and the Ministry of Justice, from Italy, the Ministry of Justice and the Guardia di Finanza and the National Police from the Netherlands.
